Esta é uma das melhores categorias desta premiação. O primeiro Oscar na categoria de Melhor Canção Original foi entregue em 1935, na 7ª Edição do Oscar em que premiava os Melhores de 1934. No começo, só três filmes concorreram, mas anos após, chegou a ter 10 indicados. Segue abaixo, a lista com os vencedores até 1950.
